The River

The river winds through valleys deep,

Past sleeping towns where children sleep;

It carries dreams upon its tide,

And secrets that the hills confide.

It feeds the fields with life and rain,

And washes clean the dusty plain;

The fishermen cast nets with care,

Their hopeful songs float through the air.

But man has poisoned river beds,

With waste that fills the fish with dread;

The water once so crystal clear,

Now murky brown, fills hearts with fear.
