Wanjiru lived in a small village near Nyeri, where the mornings were cold and misty. Every Saturday, she woke up early to help her grandmother sell ripe avocados at the market. She enjoyed counting the coins and arranging the green fruit neatly in baskets. The customers liked her cheerful smile and often returned to buy from her again.
One morning, heavy rain fell before the market opened. The path to town turned muddy and slippery, and many traders stayed at home. Wanjiru's grandmother worried that no one would come to buy their avocados. But Wanjiru carried the baskets carefully and walked slowly so that the fruit would not spill onto the wet ground.
When they reached the market, only a few traders had arrived. Wanjiru noticed that the customers who did come were eager for fresh produce because the other sellers were absent. She sold every avocado before noon and earned more money than on a normal day. Her grandmother was proud of her courage and patience during the storm.
On their way home, Wanjiru smiled and said that hard work always finds a reward. Her grandmother agreed and promised to teach her how to grow her own avocado trees one day. From that day, Wanjiru understood that effort and a positive attitude could turn even a difficult morning into a success.
