Marking scheme
(a) Data backup is the process of creating and keeping an extra copy of data on a separate storage medium or location so that the data can be recovered if the original is lost, damaged or corrupted. (b) Two measures: (i) Use a strong password (and where possible encryption) on the laptop so that only authorised people can open the files, protecting against unauthorised access and theft of information. (ii) Regularly back up the data to a separate device such as an external hard disk or to cloud storage, so that if the laptop is stolen, damaged or infected by a virus, the records can still be recovered. (Other acceptable measures: install and update antivirus software; avoid sharing login details.)
