The School Debate

The school hall. Students are seated. The debate moderator, Mr. Kamau, stands at the front. Two teams face each other.

MR. KAMAU: Good morning, students. Today's motion is: 'Social media does more harm than good to young people.' The proposing team will speak first.

AMINA: Thank you, Mr. Kamau. Social media wastes students' time. Many learners spend hours scrolling through their phones instead of studying.

BRIAN: (Standing up confidently) That is not entirely true. Social media helps students access educational content and connect with learners from other schools.

AMINA: But what about cyberbullying? Many young people have suffered because of cruel messages posted online.

BRIAN: (Pausing thoughtfully) I agree that cyberbullying is a problem. However, the solution is to educate young people about responsible use, not to ban social media entirely.

MR. KAMAU: Both sides have made valid points. Remember, a good debater listens carefully and responds respectfully.

(The audience claps. The debate continues with the next speakers.)
