Once upon a time, there lived a tortoise and a hare in a large forest. The hare was always boasting about how fast he could run. He would laugh at the tortoise for being so slow.

"You are the slowest creature in the forest," the hare said one day. "I feel sorry for you."

"Speed is not everything," replied the tortoise calmly. "I challenge you to a race."

The hare laughed so hard that tears rolled down his cheeks. All the animals gathered to watch the race. The elephant was chosen as the judge.

"Ready, set, go!" trumpeted the elephant.

The hare dashed off at great speed, leaving the tortoise far behind. When the hare was halfway through the race, he looked back and saw no sign of the tortoise. He decided to take a nap under a mango tree.

Meanwhile, the tortoise kept walking steadily. Step by step, he passed the sleeping hare. When the hare finally woke up, he saw the tortoise crossing the finish line. All the animals cheered.

"Well done, Tortoise!" said the elephant. "You have shown us that determination beats speed."

The hare hung his head in shame. From that day, he never boasted about his speed again. This is the end of my story.

There is no direct simile in this version; however, the hare 'laughed so hard that tears rolled down his cheeks' is a hyperbole showing his arrogance.
