A long time ago, Hare and Tortoise were great friends. One day, Hare boasted that he was the fastest animal in the forest. 'No one can beat me in a race,' he declared proudly.

'I challenge you to a race,' said Tortoise quietly. All the animals laughed, but Tortoise was serious. The race was set for the following morning.

When the race began, Hare sprinted ahead and was soon out of sight. Feeling confident, he decided to rest under a tree. 'Tortoise is so slow. I have plenty of time,' he thought as he fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Tortoise kept walking steadily without stopping. He passed the sleeping Hare and continued towards the finish line. When Hare finally woke up and ran to the finish, Tortoise had already won.

From that day, the animals learned that slow and steady wins the race, and that one should never underestimate others.
