Kamau had always dreamed of becoming a football player. Every evening after school, he ran to the dusty field near his home to practise with his friends. They used a ball made of plastic bags tied together with string, but to Kamau it felt like a real match. He played with all his energy and never wanted the games to end.
One Saturday, a coach from the nearby town came to watch the village boys play. He had heard that some talented young players lived there. Kamau was nervous, but he ran fast, passed the ball well, and scored two goals. The coach smiled and wrote something in his small notebook. Kamau hoped he had done enough to be noticed.
After the match, the coach called Kamau aside. He said the boy had great talent but needed proper training and good shoes. He invited Kamau to join a youth team in town. Kamau was thrilled, but he also felt sad because his parents could not afford the bus fare to travel there every day.
When Kamau told his parents the news, they were very happy. His father promised to find a way. The whole village contributed small amounts of money to support him. Kamau realised that his dream was not his alone. With the help of his community, he was ready to work hard and never give up.
