Read the passage below and answer questions 13 to 18
The African elephant is the largest land animal in the world. An adult male can weigh up to 6,000 kilograms and stand about 3.3 metres tall at the shoulder. Elephants are known for their intelligence, strong memory, and complex social behaviour.
Elephants live in groups called herds, usually led by the oldest female known as the matriarch. The matriarch uses her experience and memory to guide the herd to water sources and safe areas. Baby elephants are cared for by the entire herd.
Sadly, elephants face many threats. Poaching for ivory tusks has greatly reduced their numbers. Loss of habitat due to farming and human settlement also threatens their survival. Conservation efforts including anti-poaching patrols and protected reserves are helping to save these magnificent animals.
