Marking scheme
(a) 2 marks: - Paul firmly rejects the idea ("By no means!"). (1 mark) - Believers have died to sin, so they cannot go on living in it. (1 mark) (b) Any two of the following, 2 marks each (1 mark for the teaching, 1 mark for explaining how it applies with a relevant example) (4 marks): - Through baptism the believer shares in Christ's death and rising, so the youth should leave the old sinful life and live a new life, e.g. stop cheating in examinations or stealing (Romans 6:4). - Sin should not reign in the body or be obeyed (Romans 6:12), so the youth should resist peer pressure such as drug and alcohol abuse or sexual immorality. - Parts of the body should be offered to God as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13), e.g. using one's talents, time and phone to serve others and spread good, not to bully or spread hate. - Believers should count themselves dead to sin and alive to God (Romans 6:11), so the youth should build a close relationship with God through prayer, Bible study and worship. - The old self was crucified so believers are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6-7), giving the youth confidence that God can help them overcome bad habits and addictions. - Believers are under grace, not under law (Romans 6:14), so the youth should depend on God's grace, repent and seek forgiveness when they fall instead of giving up. - Those united with Christ in death will also share in his resurrection (Romans 6:5, 8), giving hope and endurance in times of hardship.
