Marking scheme
Any two lessons, well explained, 2 marks each (1 mark for the lesson, 1 mark for the explanation linked to the text) (4 marks): - God is the source of wisdom and knowledge: God gave Daniel and his friends learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and gave Daniel understanding of visions and dreams (Daniel 1:17). - Christians should strive for excellence: the king found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his kingdom (Daniel 1:20). - Christians should be humble and give credit to God for their abilities: Daniel told the king that a God in heaven reveals mysteries and that the interpretation did not come from his own wisdom (Daniel 2:27-30). - God-given wisdom should be used to serve others and solve problems: Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream and so saved the wise men of Babylon (Daniel 2:24). - Faithfulness and wisdom are rewarded: the king made Daniel ruler over the province of Babylon and chief over its wise men (Daniel 2:48). - Christians should help others to grow: Daniel asked the king to appoint Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego over the affairs of the province (Daniel 2:49). - Wise use of gifts can lead others to acknowledge God: Nebuchadnezzar declared that Daniel's God is the God of gods (Daniel 2:47). - A good reputation built on an excellent spirit lasts: years later the queen recommended Daniel to Belshazzar for his excellent spirit, knowledge and understanding, and his ability to interpret dreams and solve problems (Daniel 5:11-12).

(a) Any two of the following, well explained, 2 marks each (1 mark for the reason, 1 mark for the explanation) (4 marks): - Life is a gift from God and only God has the right to take it away (Job 1:21; Deuteronomy 32:39). - Deliberately ending a person's life breaks the commandment 'You shall not murder' (Exodus 20:13). - Human beings are created in the image of God, so every life is sacred and has value even in sickness (Genesis 1:27). - God can still heal through prayer or medicine, so the case may not be hopeless (James 5:14-15). - Suffering can have meaning; God can give strength and grace in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9; Romans 8:28). - Christians are called to care for the sick, not to end their lives (Matthew 25:36). - God determines the time of death (Ecclesiastes 3:2). - Doctors' predictions can be mistaken, and euthanasia could be abused, e.g. by relatives seeking inheritance or wishing to avoid the cost of care. - Euthanasia is illegal in Kenya, and the Constitution protects the right to life (Article 26).
