3 marksGive three reasons why a learner's broiler project may make a low profit.
(3 marks)
Marking scheme
Any THREE, 1 mark each (the reason must be linked to the loss of profit): - High cost of purchased feed compared with the price fetched by the birds, which eats up the margin. - Heavy mortality caused by disease, poor brooding or weak biosecurity, so fewer birds reach the market. - Poor marketing, such as selling to middlemen or selling when the market is flooded, which lowers the price received. - Theft and predation by dogs, rats or wild birds, which reduces the number of birds sold. - Poor record keeping, so feed wastage and losses go unnoticed and are not corrected. - Slow growth because of poor quality chicks or underfeeding, which lengthens the rearing period and raises costs.
